This book is definitely one of the best I've read this year. The setting is enchanting, the dialogue is clever, and small pieces of the story "Aladdin" are scattered throughout the plot. Though there are some mature themes in the story, they are handled well, and are not emphasized or used as the driving part of the book. The characters are crafted well, and the main character is highly likable. One thing that really stuck out to me the most was that this story was not an insta-love.The character's relationships develop slowly and over time, but not slow enough that you lose interest. Over all, a beautiful story, and definitely worth reading. Mac Welp. This book kind of blew me away. I had tried reading it on Kindle a few times and for some reason I never got into it, but reading the physical book was an entirely different experience. The dialogue, so snappy! The characters, so witty! The ticking clock dynamic! The gorgeous setting! The stories-within-a-story! Everything! SO GOOD. My only issue was that when things got a little descriptive, setting-wise, the writing leaned a little on the cliche side. But I loved the characters, the setting itself, the alternating POV... Definitely reading the sequel. I'm all heart eyes emoji right now.
