To begin, I got a sample of "Six of Crows" with a kindle book I bought, "Ruin and Rising", also by Leigh Bardugo. Though I was ready to be done with the Grisha universe, I decided to try it, as I have a love for stories about thieves. After the sample, I was completely hooked, and bought the book as soon as it was released. I was not disappointed. The writing style is amazing in itself, but what I really loved were the characters. Kaz-- Though he is the second highest in the gang the Dregs, everyone knows he is the real leader. Inej-- A girl known as "the Wraith" for her ability to seemingly vanish. Jesper-- Part of the Dregs; can never walk away from a wager. Matthias-- An escaped convict with a longing for revenge. Nina-- A Grisha from Ravka who works occasionally for the Dregs. Wylan-- A boy with a past he is desperate to escape. I found it really interesting to see things from a character's point of view, and then see that character from a different perspective. You can see the layers to the story, what happened while certain characters weren't there. One thing that made me ridiculously happy was the length of the book. Hardcover is 450 pages. <3 I would highly recommend this book. There are some mature themes, violence within the gangs, and minor swearing, but other than that, it was amazing, and I can't wait for the sequel! Mac Well. I am wrecked. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ This is the seriously the best book I've read in so long. I liked the Grisha Trilogy, but this was worlds beyond. Leigh Bardugo is amazing. All six main characters characters had enough fascinating backstory for a book each, but somehow she put them all together into one big twisted, nonstop, nuanced, heart-pounding adventure that gave each one some highly-anticipated spotlight. So...I'm just gonna go preorder Crooked Kingdom. Also, a thousand thank yous to Miss Lauren for convincing me to pick it up again and telling me which characters out of the 251426 in the first few chapters were important to remember! ;) Follow her advice and don't get bogged down with the multitude of characters--they're all so different and each voice is completely their own. Couldn't have asked for a better cast of characters!
